'Thanks For Bringing Flag Day Back To Framingham': Mayor Spicer

The city welcomed the parade, which hasn't happened in Framingham in 12 years, back with enthusiasm.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Mayor Yvonne Spicer spoke to the residents today, releasing a statement on her appreciation of the city's return to celebrating Flag Day.

"Wow! What a parade and perfect day we had to celebrate our nation’s flag, in our amazing city!" wrote Spicer. "The Flag Day Parade in Framingham has a wonderful, deeply rooted history, I was thrilled we could reinstitute it after 12 years. I have heard from so many people how much it meant to have the Flag Day Parade return to Framingham."

To pull off the day was a team effort, she added, and demonstrates the "tenacity of our community." Many sponsors, supporters and patrons helped to make the day a success.

The Flag Day Parade organizers joined co-chairs Kelly Hagerty and Craig Sullivan, who worked behind the scenes, to create the event.

"To our honorary Grand Marshals Valerie Mulvey, for her many years of service to our city, and Nick Paganella for representing our servicemen and women – a huge thank you!" wrote Spicer.

Nearly 45 groups marched, including the Framingham City Council, School Committee, local businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations, community members, bands, clowns, and the many municipal departments and divisions.

"Residents of Framingham, thank you for welcoming back the treasured Flag Day parade," said Spicer in a statement. "This was an opportunity to celebrate with family, friends, and neighbors the pride in our rich and diverse community – truly the best of Framingham! I am already looking forward to next year’s Flag Day parade."
