The break occurred between the Massachusetts Turnpike overpass and Leggat McCall Connector Road.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by noon on Tuesday, March 8.

A water pipe from 1966 burst just after 2 p.m. Hundreds of gallons of water flowed from the cracked pipe flooding part of Speen Street and buckling the road, said DPW spokesperson Judi Teller.

Water was turned off for several businesses and homeowners.

Water was restored to most by 10 p.m., said Teller.

Some homeowners experienced muddy-colored water on Monday.

During a water main break, naturally occurring minerals become dislodged from the walls of the water pipe and get into the water stream, explained Framingham DPW.

If homeowners see brown or muddy-colored water they should run cold water only in a bathtub or shower until the water becomes clear.

"Once the water is clear, it is safe for drinking an other uses," said DPW.

The detour will be in effect through the evening commute. Crews will be on the scene through the night.
