Scouts Prepare for Fun Summer

Prospective Scouts are also welcome.

<Editor’s Note: Cub Scout Pack 106 submitted this news release.>

After a very active and successful year in which Grafton Cub Scout Pack 106 advanced almost 100 boys in rank, the leadership has kicked off their Summer Activities schedule. During the school year, boys meet on a regular basis at den and pack meetings.Β

During the summer, there are multiple activities planned to provide the boys with opportunities to learn new skills and complete more achievements.Β  The main goal is to encourage the boys to have fun and get outside.

To help achieve that goal, there is one event each month in June, July, and August that is chosen to be an official "summertime activity," and boys who attend all three events are recognized with a special award when the scouting year kicks off again in September.Β

These events are also open to any prospective Cub Scouts. They are a great opportunity for boys who might be curious about scouting to learn about it and interact with current Pack 106 boys and leaders. Cub Scouts range in age from 6 years old (first grade in the fall) to 11 years old (fifth grade in the fall).

The events planned are:

Sunday 6/24/12Β - Douglas State Park Picnic and Hike, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pack will be hosting a "burgers and dogs" picnic for families and enjoying a hike through the park as well.

Saturday 7/14/12Β - Worcester Tornadoes sleepover from 4:30 p.m on. Boys will be able to get baseball training from actual Tornadoes players, have a hot dog dinner, participate in a pre-game on-field parade, and enjoy the game. Afterwards, boys can camp out on the Fitton Field ballpark itself and have breakfast the next morning. This event does have a fee, and is not one of the official "summertime activities". The registration deadline is Friday, July 6.

Saturday 7/21/12Β - Bike Rally from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Lincoln, R.I. bike trail. The boys will gather at 10:30 a.m., ride their bikes along the bike path, and around noon will have a picnic lunch provided by the pack.

Sunday 8/12/12Β - Mount Monadnock hike from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m at Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire. The boys will gather at 9:30 a.m. and enjoy a beautiful hike up and down Mount Monadnock. If you've never hiked Monadnock, it's a really fun trip. Lunch will be eaten on the trail, and is not provided.

Saturday 8/25/12Β - Battleship Cove sleepover from 6 p.m. on. Attendees will explore real working navy vessels including the battleship USS Massachusetts. There is a destroyer and submarine, too. There will be dinner on-board in "chow line" form, and then everyone will be given guided tours and be able to explore and interact with the exhibits in a "living museum." People will sleep in the battleship's sleeping quarters or, if the weather cooperates, above-board on deck. The registration deadline is Wednesday, June 20.

All of these events are open to siblings as well as current and prospective Cub Scouts.

Finally, boys can also participate in some Scout Summer Camps held in July and August. In order to attend camp, boys must be registered with a pack.Β For more information on these events, and a printable calendar, visit the Pack 106 Summertime Activities page atΒ http://www.graftonpack106.org/summer-activities-2012/
