Woman Who Suffered Heart Attack Thanks Grafton First Responders

The dispatcher was on the phone with her when he heard the phone drop.

GRAFTON, MAβ€”A woman is thankful to be alive, and visited Grafton's police department to thank those who saved her.

On Saturday, March 31, Grafton police got a 911 call from a woman who was having severe chest pains. Dispatcher Dennis Perron immediately sent out MedStar and Officer Thomas Farrell to the call, with Perron staying on the line trying to give instructions. The caller became unresponsive and Perron heard the phone drop.

Officers, firefighters and medics found the woman in full cardiac arrest when they got there. The woman was defibrillated at the scene and other advanced life-saving procedures were initiated, said police.

The caller was revived and subsequently transported to the hospital. During transport, the caller again went into cardiac arrest. She was again successfully defibrillated and was conscious, alert and talking on arrival at the hospital.

Diane Mathews was the woman who suffered the attack. And on Saturday, April 21, she came in to thank the first responders at Grafton Police headquarters who saved her life.

"We are happy that Mrs. Mathews is recovering from the incident and we wish her the best of health in the future," said police on its Facebook page.
