Very soon you will no longer have to imagine as these two scenarios will be a reality. We are on the cusp of a transportation revolution, and it’s called Urban Air Mobility.
What is Advanced Air Mobility and Urban Air Mobility?
The Federal Aviation Administration defines Urban Air Mobility (UAM) as an envisioned…“safe and efficient aviation transportation system using highly automated aircraft that will operate and transport passengers or cargo at lower altitudes within urban and suburban areas.”

They go on to say that “UAM will be composed of an ecosystem that considers the evolution and safety of the aircraft, the framework for operation, access to airspace, infrastructure development, and community engagement.”
Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) builds upon the UAM concept by incorporating use cases not specific to operations in urban environments, such as:
- Commercial Inter-city (Longer Range/Thin Haul)
- Cargo Delivery
- Public Services
- Private / Recreational Vehicles
Air Taxi for Passengers, Cargo and Private and Public Service.
In a nutshell, commuting and cargo delivery by automobile is going to be competing with commuting and cargo delivery by aircraft, dramatically increasing the usage of Air Mobility. Air Mobility will provide speedier, more efficient options while alleviating gridlock and congested automotive traffic.
Air Mobility is not a mode of commuter transportation that is a far off, futuristic fantasy. But a reality that is in serious development by dozens of companies that will be offering air taxi service within the next five to ten years. Synchronizing customer needs to make it affordable, convenient, and efficient for customers is currently being studied, developed, and researched.
Beverly Regional is a Perfect Fit as a Proving Ground for Urban Air Mobility
While there are differing approaches and players behind Air Mobility’s required energy supply systems, nearly all agree a regional airport like Beverly has the perfect attributes to serve as a hub for testing and development.
Beverly’s proximity to Boston as well as short distance to iconic tourist destinations will supply a steady stream of users. Also, with an already thriving (Fortunate 500 Companies) business travel customer base, nearby business parks, available land for development, and exceptional accessibility, Beverly is uniquely suited to embrace a program of testing and development for Air Mobility.
