It's not the first time the North Shore has been recognized by the Academy.

GLOUCESTER, MA — You're forgiven if you didn't stay up through all the highlights, lowlights and, phew, the incident — but locals got a nice surprise at the end of the 94th Academy Awards Sunday night.
"CODA," a film about a talented singer who is the only hearing of her deaf family in Gloucester, punctuated the evening by winning Best Picture. "CODA" was filmed on location in Gloucester and Rockport in 2019.
The movie was one of the more seldom-viewed nominees, but gained steam in recent weeks. It was released by Apple TV+, becoming the first movie produced by a streaming service to win Best Picture. The movie was also honored for Best Supporting Actor (Troy Kotsur) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Siân Heder.)
