Deadline is Wednesday To Apply To Fill School Committee Vacancy

If you'd like to fill the recently vacated spot and you live in Wenham, you'll need to have your letter of interest in by Wednesday.

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee and the Wenham Board of Selectmen are asking Wenham residents to apply for a recently vacated position on the school committee.

Roger Kuebel resigned at the June 3 committee meeting, according to Chairman Larry Schwartz. The resignation was expected, Schwartz added. But now a volunteer is needed to fill the open position on the seven-member board until the next school committee election, which will be held in early April 2016.

According to a press release, “The School Committee is responsible for establishing educational goals and policies for the schools in the district consistent with the requirements of law and statewide goals and standards by MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), reviewing and approving budgets for public education in the district, and selecting and evaluating the Superintendent.”

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to submit a resume and letter of intent by noon on Wednesday, July 22. Applicants can submit their information via mail to Central Administration Office, 5 School St., Wenham MA 01984, Attn: Dr. Michael Harvey, Superintendent or via email to m.harvey@hwschools.net.

The Wenham Board of Selectmen and Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee will review each applicant’s qualifications during a joint meeting tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 29 at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Bessie Buker Elementary School. A vote of the combined board of selectmen and school committee will determine the person who will fill the spot.
