Hamilton PD Announces 7th Citizens Police Academy

HAMILTON, MA – Hamilton Police have announced the 7th Citizens Police Academy, a weekly course that familiarizes residents with how the police department works. The academy will run for 10 consecutive Tuesdays, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., starting on Sept. 19.

According to a post on the town website, the academy also covers functions of the communications center and Hamilton Fire Department. The classes cover criminal law, patrol procedures, evidence collection, domestic violence, traffic enforcement, court proceedings, and use of force. Participants will also complete a 2 hour police ride along and a tour of the Middleton jail. Each student will observe police officers while on patrol in the ride along. Courses will be taught by Hamilton Police Officers, Police Supervisors, Hamilton Firefighters and Emergency Dispatchers.

Participants must be at least 18 years old to attend, but the course is free. Pick up applications at the Hamilton Police Department on Bay Road, or download them off of the Hamilton Police website. Preference is given to Hamilton residents.
