Hamilton Police Department Announces Fifth Citizens Police Academy

The course begins Sept. 22 and runs on consecutive Tuesdays through Nov. 24.

Ever wondered about the inner workings of your police department?

Then the Hamilton Citizens Police Academy is for you.

Beginning, Tuesday, Sept. 22, course participants will gather weekly for 10 weeks from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. and learn from members of the Hamilton Police Department, Fire Department and Communications Center what actually goes on beyond the sirens. The course concludes Tuesday, Nov. 24.

“ Classes will cover various topics such as Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Evidence collection, Domestic Violence, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Court Procedures, and Use of Force ,” reads the announcement on the Town of Hamilton website.

In addition, participants will complete a two-hour police ride-along and trip to the Middleton jail.

The course is free and open to participants 18 and up. Applications for the course must be submitted by Sunday, Aug. 30 and can be picked up at the Hamilton Police Department (265 Bay Road) or at the Town Clerks office, (577 Bay Road). Applications can also be downloaded through the Hamilton Police website or requested by contacting Sgt. Stephen Walsh or Sgt. Stephen Trepanier at 978-468-1212.

The course is limited to 20 participants and preference will be given to Hamilton residents.
