New Polls Show Moulton Leading Tisei in Sixth District

Two new polls in the race for the Sixth Congressional District seat show Seth Moulton leading Richard Tisei.

Two new polls show that Democrats may be able to hold on to the Sixth District seat in Congress, reports The Hill.

Newcomer Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Salem, leads Republican Richard Tisei of Wakefield in polls by the Democratic Congressional Campaign committee and 314 PAC.

Moulton defeated nine-term incumbent John Tierney of Salem in last week’s Democratic Party primary with 49 percent to Tierney’s 41 percent.

Moulton is up 49 percent to 41 percent in the Democratic Congressional Campaign committee poll.

The 314 PAC is “a group dedicated to electing candidates with science and technology backgrounds,” according to The Hill. Its poll has Moulton ahead by 18 percentage points.

Before the primary, several polls showed Tierney losing to Tisei in a general election matchup.

The DCCC found 10 percent of voters were undecided, while the 314 PAC poll had 20 percent of voters undecided.

Neither poll mentioned independent Chris Stockwell of Marblehead.

It is the second run for the Sixth Congressional district seat in Congress by Tisei, who came within a percentage point of defeating Tierney in 2012. It is Moulton’s first run for public office.

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

The sixth district includes 39 cities and towns on the North Shore and north of Boston, stretching from Salisbury and Newburyport in the north to Lynn and Swampscott in the south and includes Beverly, Danvers, Gloucester, Peabody and Salem.
