Woman Struck by Lightning at Beach Dies

She was identified as a 61-year-old from Connecticut. Another woman from Concord was also hit by lightning Saturday in Ipswich.

One of two women struck by lightning during a devastating storm in Ipswich on Saturday afternoon has died.

Authorities identified the victim as Marguerite Tomany, 61, of North Grosvenor Dale, Conn.

Police said Tomany and another woman from Concord were struck by lightning while they were swimming at Crane Beach in Ipswich.

The Concord woman was listed in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital. She had severe burns, WCVB reported. Her name has not been released.

After the strike, first responders found the women with no pulse and administered CPR. The women regained a pulse.

Authorities said a microburst was part of the severe storms that hit Ipswich on Saturday. The storms downed power lines and toppled trees, knocking out power to thousands in the area.
