The comprehensive grant from the Mass. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Adult Community Learning Center (ACLS) is designed to benefit those who are underserved, unemployed/underemployed, and bilingual and are seeking to improve their English skills or receive a high school diploma. It covers the costs of books, course materials and technology, in addition to providing transportation assistance for those wishing to attend classes in person. The curriculum offering includes two higher proficiency levels of ESOL (4-5 and 6-7) as well as two High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) levels (5-8 and 8-12), creating a continuum of services as a pathway for students who want to enter certificate or Associate’s degree programs at Quincy College. “It’s a privilege to open our campuses to serve those members of our community who wouldn’t otherwise have access to these advanced levels of ESOL and HiSET instruction,” said Dr. Richard DeCristofaro, President of Quincy College. “Whether in person or on line, in Quincy or in Plymouth, it’s never been easier or more convenient to become more proficient in English, obtain a high school diploma, and establish a necessary foundation for personal and professional success.”
Beginning in January and continuing through June, ESOL courses in Quincy will be offered Monday through Thursday mornings in Quincy, and Monday through Thursday evenings in Plymouth. On the Quincy campus, beginning in January, the College will offer a free 37-week HiSET program on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings.
