5 Things: Eagle Scout Centennial, Lamb Upset With Unemployment

1. Front Street Water Main: Today at approximately 9:30 a.m., crews will be flushing portions of the newly installed water main on Front Street. This flushing is necessary in order to test the mains and prepare them for active service. Please check your water before using it to ensure that it has cleared from the flushing, should any discoloration occur. The DPW estimates the flushing to take approximately one hour to complete.

2. Yom Kippur: The Jewish Day of Atonement begins tonight at sundown. As a result schools will be closed tomorrow. Check out the events calendar to plan your children's day off.

3. Eagle Scout Centennial: The National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Committee of the Knox Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, recently held its 2012 Convocation of Eagles at Nobscot Scout Reservation in Sudbury celebrating 100 years of the Eagle Scout award. Christopher Anderson, a Hopkinton Eagle Scout, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Anderson, a current Master Sergeant in the Massachusetts Air National Guard, has been deployed three times during recent conflicts in the Middle East, serving under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Rice.

4. Massachusetts Unemployment: Yesterday candidate for 8th Middlesex District Representative toured Tri-Star Design in Hopkinton and discussed issues with owner Randy McDonald. "Last week's unemployment report was disturbing. It is the second month in a row that we have lost jobs in Massachusetts. We are heading in the wrong direction. That's why I think it is so crucial that we create a more business friendly climate for small business. They are our number one producer of new jobs," Lamb said. 5. Nation Drug Take Back: On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Hopkinton Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.
