Hopkinton Police Log: Cat in Tree, Beaver Trapping

Friday, Aug. 24

9:53 a.m.: An officer searched the East Main Street area for a black BMW after the Ashland Police Department reported that it had been operating erratically.

6:24 p.m.: An officer reported that a vehicle drove by him on South Street riding on a rim. The officer stood by while the operator changed the tire.

6:43 p.m.: An officer checked on a person who was reportedly walking down Chestnut Street. The man was found on Ash Street and transported to his home.

9:43 p.m.: An officer assisted the  with a cat in a tree on Montana Road.

Saturday, Aug. 25

9:38 a.m.: A resident of Spring Street complained of parked cars creating a hazard in the roadway. An officer responded and had one vehicle moved.

11:37 a.m.: Two callers reported a minor car crash on Saddle Hill Road.

6:29 p.m.: An officer kept a look out for a report of a car with a possible handgun inside. Milford PD said the vehicle was on route 85 headed toward the town line. The officer was unable to find the vehicle.

6:45 p.m.: Officers from the  assisted in Holliston where the vehicle from the previous incident had been found. The weapon in question turned out to be a BB gun.

6:51 p.m.: A resident of Wood Street reported on-going construction. An officer spoke with a person at the location who said no equipment was being used.

7:37 p.m.: A caller from Maple Avenue reported an intoxicated person causing a disturbance. One person was taken in to protective custody.

8:58 p.m.: A caller from Reservoir Road reported that trash had been dumped on her lawn including candy wrappers, beer cans and artificial flowers. The information was logged.

9:03 p.m.: An officer removed a log from the road on Fruit Street.

10:31 p.m.: A resident of Saddle Hill Road reported waking up and seeing a vehicle leave at a high rate of speed. The area was checked and no vehicles were seen.

Sunday, Aug. 26

12:00 a.m.: An officer stopped a vehicle on East Main Street and arrested Mario A. Orellana, 34, of 21 Park St., Marlborough. Orellana was charged with marked lanes violation, negligent operation and drunken-driving.

8:54 a.m.: A Valentine Road resident called to report they had found a beaver in a trap near the stream off Front Street.  investigated the incident.

1:19 p.m.: A caller from Hayden Rowe Street reported that a log splitter was being used in the area. An officer checked and found that the splitter was being used by a resident and was therefore not in violation of the town's bylaws.

4:12 p.m.: A security company called to report a possible water main break on Wilson Street. An officer responded with the on-call water department worker and observed water coming out of a manhole cover.

6:38 p.m.: An officer stopped with a vehicle that was pulled over on the side of West Main Street. The vehicle was stopped so a grandparent could assure their grandchild was wearing a seat belt properly.

7:29 p.m.: A caller reported a possible domestic incident on Highcroft Way. Officers responded and spoke with the people who were involved in a verbal argument. The male involved left for the night.

9:21 p.m.: A 911 caller reported that a woman walked in to his house on Grove Street and sat down on the stairs. The caller said the woman would not leave. When officers responded the woman attempted to flee. Kathryn S. Hintz, 47, of 28 Mill St., Marlborough was arrested. She was charged with two counts of assaulting an officer, trespassing, misdemeanor breaking and entering, failure to stop for police and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

10:35 p.m.: A caller from Teresa Road reported that his mailbox had been damaged a short time ago. All units were busy but an officer responded later to speak with the resident.

Monday, Aug. 27

9:39 a.m.: Matthew P. Mcnally, 17, of 24 Hillcrest Dr. was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

9:56 a.m.: A 911 caller reported a two-car crash on West Main Street. No injuries were reported.

10:22 a.m.: An officer reported a dog causing a traffic hazard on Wood Street. The dog was picked up by its owner before Animal Control could respond.

10:37 a.m.: A caller reported a beaver in a trap on Front Street. The Department of Public Works was notified and had the animal removed by the trapper.

11:35 a.m.: A 911 caller reported that his truck clipped one of the telephone poles on Elm Street and broke it. NStar was notified and responded.

12:53 p.m.: A 911 caller reported that a tractor trailer with logs on it hit a bridge on West Main Street and left debris in the road. The Massachusetts State Police were notified along with the DPW and Mass. Department of Transportation.

4:36 p.m.: A caller from Lincoln Street reported a past incident of breaking and entering on Lincoln Street. An officer responded for further investigation.

8:42 p.m.: A caller who was waiting for a tow on West Elm Street reported a suspicious vehicle that had circled the parking lot several times. An officer responded and spoke to the operator who said they were waiting for a relative.

8:56 p.m.: An officer stopped a vehicle on East Main Street and requested a second unit. Connor J. Hurlbut, 18, of 2 Victory Ln., was arrested. Hurlbut was charged with possession of liquor by a person under 21, marked lanes violation, speeding, operating under the influence of drugs, possession of a Class D substance and possession with intent to distribute.
