Hopkinton Police Want Your Drugs: Drug Take Back 2020

The Hopkinton police will be taking unused medication and used needles for drug take back day.

HOPKINTON, MA — Hopkinton police are asking for residents unused drugs and used needles. The department is one of many in the Commonwealth participating in the Drug Take Back Day on August 17.

Anyone interested in dropping something off can leave it at the department station lobby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 17.

This program addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse, police said. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.
