5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 17

Fundraisers and good weekend weather.

1. JP Library: The Jamaica Plain branch library is holding its annual book sale today and tomorrow, where we are told there will be "tons of great books and media for one or two dollars." Proceeds go to the library.

2. Curley: The Curley School community will hold a fundraiser tomorrow at the school in an effort to replace a lot with a usable track and field.

4. South End Flea Market: Put it on your calendars - the Claremont Neighborhood Association is having their 23rd annual Flea Market and Street Fair on Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wellington Street. The Street Fair includes antiques, collectibles, jewelry, art, and household goods for sale, a raffle for prizes from local merchants, face painting and balloons for children, food, and live music. All are invited and admission is free!

5. Skin Cancer Screening: Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital (1153 Centre St.) is offering a free skin cancer screening on Wednesday, May 29 from 5-7 p.m. The screening is open to all residents who have not seen a dermatologist in more than a year. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the Community Health and Wellness Department at 617-983-7451. Dr. Eva Balash, Dr. Christine Lian and Dr. Chrysalyne Schmults will be conducting the screenings.
