Tell the Story of the Break Out Story Slam Series

We at Patch got an email today about what sounds like a fabulous four months of slam storytelling on Sunday nights at .

Jamaica Plain is full of creative types. And while the slams are actually in Jamaica Plain (they move to Cambridge in the autumn), we're thinking the storytelling about the storytelling can be as creative as the slam series itself.

So read below, check out the MassMouth URL, and either leave a comment below or email me, Regional Editor Karla Vallance, with your proposal of how you want to tell the slam story for publication on JP Patch. Is it a video montage from each contestant? A photo gallery with captions that somehow convey the essence of each artist?

Breaking the Rules!
An off season slams series. You can break one (1) story slam rule per show. You still bring your story –Yes, it is still a story slam; true*, first person no notes, 5 minutes, original material only. Prizes and more details TBA at massmouth.com/events pages and on FB and Twitter

May 6 In verse Slam: Lines from a poem or a whole story told in verse; blank, hip-hop, sonnet or linked haiku. Let us hear what you can do.

June 10 In Song: Play music, plug in your iPod and sing along. Bring your ukele or flute, sing a few bars from a song or a medley that helps tell your story. Song or music must be an integral part of your story.

July 8 Prop it Up! A prop or a costume piece is an integral part of your story. A bat, a box, a tux, a hat…use your imagination & then bring it.

August 5 Fictional Personas - Your true or fictional stories told in the 1st person. Channel Shakespeare, your cat or Snow White and tell your story from their perspective. (*we drop the true story rule at this slam)
