Utilities Scam Reaches JP
A Patch reader says she was called, and guesses the scammers could be targeting businesses, some in Jamaica Plain.
In February, Boston.com reported that people claiming to be representatives from National Grid asking for payment have called consumers.
A Jamaica Plain Patch reader, asking for anonymity, informed us via Facebook that she was called Tuesday in what appears to be a resurgence of the scam.
“We just got called by scammers posing as ‘National Grid Billing’ threatening to shut off our gas service this afternoon unless we give them payment immediately. They were very clever, and even had a phone number to call that was answered by another scammer…we were hit today, they might be targeting JP businesses, not sure…They are very aggressive, very convincing, and people need to be warned.”
