4 Lexington Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

Four Lexington students are among about 3,800 students nationwide who won college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards.

LEXINGTON, MA — Four Lexington students have won college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They are among about 3,800 students across the country who have won college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by 153 U.S. colleges and universities.

All four winners are Lexington High School seniors.

Christopher Lim won the National Merit University of Maryland Scholarship. Lim's probable career field is computer science.

Joe McCandless won the National Merit Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Scholarship. McCandless' probable career field is computer science.

Anshuman Samanta won the National Merit Purdue University Scholarship. Samanta's probable career field is aerospace engineering.

Aditi Swamy won the National Merit Northeastern University Scholarship. Swamy's probable career field is medicine.

The winners were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition. College sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for finalists who plan to attend their institution.

The awards are between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

The final group of winners brings the number of 2023 National Merit Scholars to more than 7,140. These students will receive scholarships worth a total of nearly $28 million.
