Minuteman Student Designs New Logo for Lexington Housing Board

LEXINGTON, MA — Ariana Calder, a senior at Minuteman High School who is majoring in Design and Visual Communications, has created a dynamic new logo for the Lexington Housing Assistance Board. LexHAB selected Calder’s logo for use by the organization after reviewing several submissions by Minuteman’s design students.

Calder received a $100 art supply gift card for her first place design. Two other Minuteman design students, seniors Owen Blake and Jillian Bearden, both from Arlington, designed logos that earned second and third place, respectively.

Calder, who plans to attend college to study graphic design after she graduates from Minuteman, said she is delighted that her work is being recognized.

“I’m very honored to be appointed as the winning logo design for LexHAB,” Calder said. “Tackling this logo was a very interesting process--designing logos remotely was a hurdle I still had to get used to jumping over. However, with feedback from my classmates and instructor, I was able to create a logo I was proud of. I'm so excited that my design work will be the face of such an important movement.”

Calder’s teacher, Maria Galante, praised her talent and ability.

“Ariana has innate drawing skills, outstanding graphic design knowledge, and Adobe Creative Cloud skills that make her an exceptional student,” Galante said. “I think the logo she did effectively communicates, by word and image, the essence of LexHAB.”

According to the Town of Lexington’s web site, “The role of LexHAB is to expand the Town’s inventory of affordable housing for rental to families of low and moderate income.”
