Rev. Dr. Barbara Callaghan Installation Service at Hancock Church
Rev. Dr. Barbara Callaghan will be the first female minister to be installed in Hancock Church's 154 year history.

Lexington, MA - The Rev. Barbara L. Callaghan will be installed as Senior Minister of Hancock United Church of Christ, Congregational on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 3:00pm in the Hancock sanctuary at 1912 Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington. She will be the first female senior minister in Hancock’s 154 year history. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Rev. Callaghan’s tenure at Hancock has included the launching of Hancock Next, joining the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization, and leading the Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association. In 2015 she was installed as Second Minister and served in that position for 5 years before the discernment process of becoming the Senior Minister in January of 2020. Then in October of 2020, Rev. Callaghan was unanimously called to become Hancock’s next Senior Minister. Now finally, a year-and-a-half later, Hancock will finally get to celebrate the installation of its first woman minister!
“I remain deeply honored by your trust in me, and deeply excited and energized as we forge this new road together,” said Rev. Callaghan to the congregation about the historical moment of her calling.

A graduate of Union Theological Seminary in New York City, Rev. Callaghan will soon receive her doctorate from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University at the end of April. Rev. Callaghan and her wife Kate Callaghan have two children and are expecting their third child this summer.
