Ex-Malden Charter School Teacher Accused Of Child Sexual Assault

MALDEN, MA — A former teacher at the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School has been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a child in Colorado.

David Reid, 36, was arrested Oct. 16 on a warrant out of Colorado Springs, television station KDVR reported. The Framingham resident faces charges of sexual assault on a child and internet luring of a child, Colorado Springs police said.

Michael Garcia, 26, of Westminster, CO, was also arrested on the same charges. Reid and Garcia are accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Colorado Springs on multiple occasions after meeting with her online.

Police told KDVR Reid was a teacher at the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School at the time of his arrest. Reid was initially placed on administrative leave in October, and later let go altogether.

"The school terminated this teacher's employment in early November," Superintendent Alex Dan wrote in a message to families on Monday. "The charges from Colorado in no way relate to MVRCS or any of the school's students."
