Malden Acquires Unique Wheelchair To Improve Children's Accessibility
The Disability Commission led the charge in acquiring the grant.
MALDEN, MA — The city announced it has received a grant that will be used to fund accessibility improvements for outdoor spaces, specifically for the youth.
The Reeve Foundation, which is part of the National Paralysis Resource Center, awarded Malden’s Disability Commission GRIT Junior All Terrain wheelchair for children.
The wheelchair will reportedly be kept at the Beebe School at 401 Pleasant St. and will be used at every school and other recreational scenarios. The wheelchair’s features include adjustable brake bars and easy-to-swap lever couplings along with collapsibility that fits into small vehicles and spaces and all-terrain capabilities to deal with surfaces marred with snow, gravel, mud, sand, or grass.
