Get some Patch swag today!

Today is Friday, Dec. 17. Here are five things you need to know:

Baby steps up the thermometer: Well, well, well, it looks like we're about to rise above the Mendoza line and see temperatures above freezing. Sure, the expected high is 34 degrees, but a quick look at a Math book reveals that 34 is indeed more than 32.

OMG free stuff! Keep an eye out around the Malden Center T stop this morning for Patchers handing out fliers and free stuff to commuters. What kind of free stuff? Tote bags, water bottles, magnets, and pens. The Crazy Eddie routine starts at 7 a.m..

Malden Still Reads: So the hubbub around town yesterday knocked our regular posting schedule for a loop. We held our weekly Malden Reads column until today so it wouldn't get lost in the shuffle. This is a great program and deserves a big platform to get the word out across the city. .

Office Hours: We're back at New England Coffee Café today for office hours. Drop by from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and say hello.

It's been cold all week. Time to get the blood moving again: returns to Hugh O'Neill's tonight starting at 10 p.m..
