Five Things You Need to Know Today, Dec. 27 [Updated]

Don't leave the house this morning.

Today is Monday, Dec. 27. Here are five things you need to know:

We're getting pasted: As of 6 a.m., there's not much snow left to fall, but the wind is still howling, making cleanup around the house almost futile. We're still under a blizzard warning until noon today, according to the National Weather Service. If you don't have to go to work, stay inside. If you do have to go to work, call your boss and tell her she's crazy and you're staying home. Just be more diplomatic about it than that.

Municipal offices closed: All of Malden's government offices and buildings are closed for the day. Forget about paying your water bill, checking out a movie at the senior center or checking out a book at the library.

State offices are closed: Today is not the day to renew your license, either. The governor has ordered all non-essential state employees to stay home today in an effort to keep people off the roads until the storm passes.

Park at a school: Did you know you can park at a school parking lot for the duration of a snow emergency? You can also stick your car in the CBD garage in Malden Center, though if it's still there by 8 a.m. today, you'll be subject to regular parking rates.

A battle of NFC heavyweights: Hopefully the wind subsided enough that you were able to clean out the driveway and have the snow actually stay where you put it. If so, and if you have any energy left, there's a great Monday Night Football game, and the local taverns would love your business. Call ahead to make sure they're open!
