MALDEN, MA — The much-anticipated new Malden home of Floramo’s Restaurant now has an opening date following an announcement on Tuesday.

Floramo’s, which will occupy a space at 229 Centre Street in Malden, will open on Thursday of this week at 11 a.m.

Floramo’s is the creation of Tommy and Pat Floramo. It has served Italian, seafood and barbecue dishes since 1984. John Floramo later took over the business as its second generation owner.

Through the years, Floramo’s drew a loyal base of diners to its longtime location in Chelsea.

John Floramo more recently began to branch out, partnering with the team at Dockside Restaurant in Wakefield to open a new Floramo's venture there.

Earlier this summer, John Floramo confirmed plans to open a location in Malden in what is the former home for the Dockside Malden restaurant.

Floramo later indicated that his operation would be moving out of Chelsea while developers move forward in constructing an envisioned research and lab building at Floramo’s Chelsea site.

As local diners have eyed the Floramo's Malden opening, Malden city Business Development Officer Kevin Duffy recently told Patch that the move was one long in the making.

Duffy, who handles various economic development efforts in Malden, said he had broached the topic of a Malden Floramo's location on occasions dating back several years with John Floramo.

“Everything just worked out perfectly this time,” Duffy said late last month.

Floramo’s is set to open in Malden later this week amid a busy time for the Malden dining scene.

Roughly a half mile away from the new Floramo’s site, District Kitchen owner Stacey Zhang is finalizing work to launch a new fried chicken fast food restaurant under the name “Bam Bam Chicken.”

Zhang discussed her plans in a recent interview, saying that she was envisioning an Oct. 6 opening date for her restaurant at 245 Pleasant St.
