Gladys Rivera Rogers Latest to Announce Councilor-At-Large Bid

Former School Committee member pledges to improve public safety, education.

Gladys Rivera Rogers has formally announced that she will be running for Councilor-at-Large in 2011. Rivera, who served on the Malden School Committee from 2002-2008, is getting back into public life so that she can continue her work as an advocate for the citizens of Malden.


While on the school committee, Rivera Rogers served on the: Policy Subcommittee, Chair; Safety Subcommittee, Chair; Transportation Subcommittee, Chair and Negotiations Committee. She was a strong advocate for increased substance abuse prevention programs at the high school. Her efforts were widely praised as both informative and effective. She was also instrumental in seeing that several Malden students were recognized by El Mundo newspaper for their academic abilities. Rivera Rogers is probably most well known as a tireless advocate for her constituents.

If elected, Rivera Rogers will bring an active and experienced voice to the city council who will work on behalf of the citizens of Malden. Rivera Rogers is 100% committed to bringing her passion for service to the city council. She intends to be an outspoken advocate for public safety and education.

In addition to her service on the School Committee, Rivera has been very active as a member of: the YWCA, North Shore Black Women Association; and Tailored for Success and has volunteered her time to help out several community groups.

She is a life- long resident of Malden where she lives with her husband Chuck.
