'Joy' Filmed in Massachusetts; Opens Christmas Day in Theaters

The movie “Joy” starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro was filmed in Massachusetts in 2015 and is scheduled to Christmas Day across the country.

“Joy” was filmed on location in Wilmington, North Reading, Boston, Salem, Lynn, Washington Street in Haverhill; Rudy’s Bus and Truck, 66 Winter St., North Reading; and Manchester-by-the Sea.

The movie is described as a “rags-to-riches tale about Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano, a Long Island single mother of three children, who became a millionaire practically overnight after launching the product on QVC in 1991. Mangano (being portrayed by Lawrence) is a fixture on the Home Shopping Network with her many inventions, though the mop was her ticket to fame and fortune. She began her inventing as a teen and kept on dreaming and tinkering while still a single mom raising three kids.”

The film has been nominated for a Golden Globe ahead of its release in the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category. Jennifer Lawrence has also been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her role.

Directed by David O. Russell, other actors in the film include some other famous names including: Virginia Madsen, Diane Ladd, Edgar Ramirez, and Isabella Rossellini.
