Malden Firefighter Rescues Cat in House Fire

MALDEN, MA - A faulty fan in a second-floor bathroom appeared to be the cause of a house fire around 8 Thursday morning at 44 Fairview Ave., according to a fire official.

Fire Lt. Richard Borges said a woman who was at home at the time, made it out safely. He said she was grateful to Firefighter Joseph Walklett for rescuing her cat from the house. Firefighter Walklett is assigned to Ladder 3.

“The homeowner was a little nervous,” Lt. Borges said, until she had her cat.

Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof to vent the building.
