MALDEN, MA β€” Malden will be one of two cities in Massachusetts hosting voting in the Brazilian general election next month for Brazilian voters living abroad, the city announced on Thursday.

The election will take place on Oct. 2 at the Salemwood School at 529 Salem Street. Voting will run between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. A second round of voting will take place on Oct. 30, if necessary.

The Consulate General of Brazil in Boston announced this news alongside Gary Christenson and the city of Malden, tapping Framingham as a second location under its local jurisdiction.

β€œThe Consulate is continuously working with the city of Malden’s Mayor’s Office to make the voting process fast, secure and smooth,” the city said.

This year’s Brazilian election will feature a race for president between incumbent Jair Bolsonaro and former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The initial election can trigger a runoff to decide an eventual winner.
