Malden Man Dies After Car Crashes Into Tree In Medford
Airton Dutra-Moraes was behind the wheel of a car that went off the road and hit a tree on Mystic Avenue Sunday, state police said.
MEDFORD, MA β The driver of a car that crashed into a tree in Medford Sunday has died, state police said.
Airton Dutra-Moraes, of Malden, was behind the wheel of a 2008 Toyota Prius that went off the road and hit a tree on Mystic Avenue. The 47-year-old was taken to a Boston-area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said in a statement on Monday.
The crash happened around 12:25 p.m. Sunday, near Fulbright Street. Dutra-Moraes's car was the only vehicle involved in the crash, police said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Dutra-Moraes's family and help them pay for the funeral. The campaign's organizer, Ari Dos Passos, said Dutra-Moraes recently immigrated from Brazil and drove for DoorDash and other delivery apps.
"When he was not working, Airton loved to go on runs with his wife Lana," Dos Passos wrote. "They dreamed of running the biggest marathons offered in the US, such as the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon."
