Malden Mayor Seeks Resident For Racial Equity Commission
The commission will examine the consequences of racism on public health and propose recommendations for a Racial Equity Plan for Malden.
MALDEN, MA — There is a resident opening on Malden's Racial Equity Commission, which examines the consequences of racism on public health and will propose recommendations for a Racial Equity Plan for the city.
Members will work over the course of 18 months to develop surveys; conduct focus groups; conduct research and interviews with impacted community members, leaders, and organizations to document the impacts of racism and discrimination; study language access, healthcare, mental health and wellbeing; employment and economic mobility; and educational needs of the city at the municipal level, in the business community, nonprofit and faith-based communities, schools and beyond.
The commission will consist of eight people, including the DEI coordinator, with varied backgrounds who understand systemic racism, according to a statement from the city.

One member is appointed by the mayor and two are appointed by the city council. The school committee will appoint two members from the student body of the Malden Public Schools, and these members will nominate two additional members. Resident members may serve for two years from date of appointment.
