MALDEN, MA — Malden and Medford high schools will take their historic football rivalry to Fenway Park this fall for a special Thanksgiving Day game, the Fenway Sports Management Group announced on Thursday.

The Malden/Medford matchup will be one of five Thanksgiving games held at Fenway this year. The game is tentatively set for Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m., though kickoff could be changed depending on the length of a 5 p.m. game between Boston Latin Academy and the O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science.

High school football first returned to Fenway Park in 2015. The stadium has since hosted a number of schools on a rotating basis around the Thanksgiving holiday.

“We are thrilled to host high school football once again at Fenway Park,” Fenway Sports Management President Mark Lev said on Thursday morning. “Thanksgiving rivalry games are always a highlight of the high school football season and adding the iconic backdrop of Fenway Park will only make the occasion more special for the players, coaches, and fans.”

The Malden/Medford Thanksgiving rivalry is hailed one of the oldest continuous high school football rivalries in the country, dating back to the 1880s. Malden holds a slight edge in the historic record, most recently defeating Medford last fall by a narrow 12-10 score at home in Malden.
