Malden Mental Health Referral Service Open To Residents, Students

The free service is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

MALDEN, MA – A free outpatient mental health referral service is in place to help residents and public school students connect with mental health care providers, Malden Mayor Gary Christenson and the Malden Health Department announced in a news release.

In collaboration with the William James College INTERFACE Referral Service, the initiative, launched in February, provides access to an outpatient mental health resource and referral helpline.

β€œThere is no doubt that COVID-19 has affected the mental health and well-being of many individuals and families,” said Mayor Christenson in the release. β€œUnfortunately, in the aftermath of the pandemic, it has become especially difficult to access outpatient mental health services. This helpline will hopefully take down some of the barriers that exist and assist callers so that they can secure the mental health resources that they need.”

Malden residents interested in the service will go through a referral service process consisting of an intake meeting with a resource and referral counselor to match the caller with a provider that meets their needs. Once the referral is made, a follow-up appointment is made to ensure the caller is receiving the correct services.

Non-residents may be able to take advantage of the service if their community is one of the over 60 communities contracted to offer the service.
