Malden Police Cadet Fluent in Arabic
The new cadet was born in Morocco, and in 2000 he, his parents, and two younger sisters emigrated to the United States.

MALDEN, MA - City officials welcomed Illyas Hattal, a new cadet, to the Malden Police Department.
Hattal was born in Morocco, and in 2000 he, his parents, and two younger sisters emigrated to the United States. He has lived in Malden since his arrival in the U.S. and is fluent in Arabic, according to city officials.

Hattal is slated to receive his associates degree in criminal justice from Bunker Hill Community College this spring, and plans to continue his criminal justice studies at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
The new police cadet will work at the front office of the Malden Police Department assisting with constituent matters.
