Malden Protests ICE Arrest Of Resident: Report

The gathering included people in leadership positions within the city.

MALDEN, MA — Elected officials, community leaders, and family members gathered to protest the recent detainment of a resident by Immigration Customs and Enforcement, according to a report from NBC 10 Boston.

Edgar Heran Ellias Escobar at approximately 5:30 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 17 while he was driving to work. The driver’s side window of his truck was smashed as he was removed from the vehicle. His wife has since spoken out advocating for her husband’s innocence.

Malden City Councilors Carey McDonald and Stephen Windslow, Massachusetts State Rep. Steven Ultrino, Old South Church Associate Minister Ashley Popperson, and Legal Services of Greater Boston Managing Attorney Maggie Morgan highlighted some of the participants at City Hall on Monday. ICE has said that its officers “took appropriate measures and followed their training to use the minimum amount of force necessary to resolve the situation” regarding Escobar’s detainment.
