Malden Residents Aim to Help Victims of Violence

MALDEN, MA - Two Malden residents are leading a campaign that celebrates courageous kids who have suffered from abuse.
Mayor Gary Christenson recently met with Jacquelyn Lamont from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office and Annu Thareja of the Children’s Advocacy Center to hear about their collaboration in promoting the “Now You See” campaign. Both are Malden residents.
As many survivors of abuse do not tell anyone about what is happening to them and may feel isolated, ashamed or resigned to enduring their situation, Now You See encourages people of all ages to speak and be assured that they are not alone, according to a release. Exhibits feature the eyes of children who have been affected by sexual or physical abuse and exploitation and each picture is paired with words of the survivor, according to a release. The effort encourages discussion about experiences from victims in an effort to help others who have suffered or are suffering while promoting the resilience of victims. Exhibits have been displayed across the state, according to a release.
