Malden Rolls Out Residence Registry To Restrict Solicitors
Property owners can register to have certain people not approach their front door.
MALDEN, MA — The police department announced the launch of its Do Not Knock Registry, which gives residents the opportunity to prohibit solicitors from approaching their property.
The registry is a list of addresses in the city where the occupant has notified the police department that certain solicitors are not permitted on the premises. The resident must agree to have their address published on the department’s website. In addition, a sign will have to be placed outside the entrance that states “commercial canvassers and solicitors are prohibited.”
According to the department, the registry does not prohibit individuals canvassing or soliciting for religious, political, or charitable purposes. Solicitors who violate the rule by approaching a property that is on the registry are subject to a $300 fine and potentially a one-year revocation of their canvassing permit.
