Malden Seeks Feedback On Broadway Rezoning
The city received grant funding to study the Broadway Corridor in 2018 ahead of the opening of the Encore Boston Harbor Casino.

MALDEN, MA — New development may soon give Malden’s Broadway Corridor a new look.
As the city eyes zoning amendments to shape that development process, city officials are seeking public feedback via an ongoing survey.
“What do you want new development on the Broadway Corridor to look like?” the city asked in a message on social media last week.

Broadway has been the subject of special attention since at least 2018, when the city of Malden received grant funding from the state Gaming Commission ahead of the opening of the Encore Boston Harbor Casino in Everett.
The grant paid for a land use and economic development plan, which was completed in Dec. 2020.
The plan highlighted how Malden might prepare for a boost in development interest and economic activity along Broadway related to the casino. Now, in 2022, officials are moving forward.
The city already hosted a community meeting in May to gauge stakeholder perspectives on future development.
The ongoing survey, according to a survey description, was built as an adaptation of feedback from that May meeting.
The Broadway Corridor Survey will close to new responses on Friday.
From there, the city is planning to hold another community feedback meeting before developing an action plan and actual zoning amendments to go before the City Council.
