MALDEN, MA — The Malden Senior Center will be closed this week due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

The city announced that the center will be closed from Jan. 3-7 "out of an abundance of caution."

The facility serves people ages 60 and up from Malden and the surrounding communities, offering a variety of mental, physical and social programs.

According to the latest data released by the state Dec. 30, Malden reported an average daily rate of 69 cases per 100,000 people. The city had 654 new COVID cases over the previous two weeks, and a positivity rate of 7.68 percent.
