Malden Trees On Chopping Block For Exchange Street Work

MALDEN, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation and city of Malden are proposing some tree removal for the Exchange Street reconstruction project. The plan was originally to remove 12 trees along the roadway, but advocates were able to get that number reduced to seven removals, with the addition of nine shade trees, Ward 4 Councilor Ryan O'Malley said.

O'Malley said the number of trees slated for removal could be reduced to as low as three. Some trees must be removed to build underground utilities like electrical and storm water infrastructure.

O'Malley will present at the Tree Hearing Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to determine whether the following trees will be removed:
