Malden High School Spirit Week unites alumni, current students, teachers, coaches and the general community with annual traditions.

Since 1857, Malden High School has been preparing students for the challenges of college and beyond. Traditions run deep at Malden High School, from the Summer Search Experience during school break to Junior Varieties held in late February.

The school year is punctuated by one of our most exciting annual events, Spirit Week. There is no denying the fact that MHS has a sense of pride and the spirit to go with it.

The three school days leading up to the Malden-Medford Thanksgiving Day football game consists of a Pajama Day, Wacky Tacky Day, food drive and the Spirit Day pep rally followed by a Powder Puff game at MacDonald stadium where the senior girls take on the junior girls in a serious match of flag football.

A student favorite is Hall decorating where competition is fierce and preparations sometimes begin weeks in advance. Immediately after school on Tuesday the four classes begin decorating individual hallways focusing on the football players and cheerleaders and incorporating their hallway's theme to the football rivalry between the two bordering communities.

Even though competition among the four classes is fierce during the week the camaraderie between students is seen throughout the building as students pose for photographs, laugh with friends and finally cheer on the football team at the pep rally.

Spirit week has been around for some time now and over the years, the good it has done for the community with its food drive and other important events have been large enough that those that have experienced it once seem to always find their way back to it again and again.
