UPDATE: Police Believe Main Street Store Robbed by Woman with Syringe
Suspect later arrested in Medford.

Update at 5 p.m.: Police arrested Ashley M. Phelan, 24, of 445 Medford St., Malden, in connection with the case. According to Malden Police Lt. Marc Gatcomb, Phelan entered SulAmerica Enterprises a little before 1 p.m. today.
“She tried to cash a check there and when the clerk refused, she produced a syringe/needle and threatened the clerk, who picked up a chair to attempt to defend himself,” according to Gatcomb.
Nobody was injured in the exchange, according to Gatcomb.

Police have arrested a woman they believe robbed a Main Street store with a hypodermic needle. The woman allegedly robbed a business at 102 Main Street just before 1 p.m. Monday and then sped off in a car. Police believe the suspect stole the car from her mother, according to radio transmissions.

According to Malden police radio transmissions, the suspect threatened staff at the store with the syringe before escaping. She then headed to Medford, where she crashed the car into a snow bank on Fourth Street. It is believed she was heading to a relative’s home on Second Street.
At 1:22 p.m., Malden officers reported they had a suspect in custody, according to radio transmissions.
