Suspect, Victim In Fatal Malden Shooting ID'd

Zachary Dimaro, 21, has been charged in a shooting on Greenwood Court early Tuesday, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said.

MALDEN, MA — A Malden man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning. Zachary Dimaro, 21, is accused of shooting 25-year-old Joshua Mercier, also of Malden, during an encounter at Dimaro's home on Greenwood Court, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said.

Police found Mercier shot in the chest in the area of Cross Street around 12:10 a.m. Dec. 1. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators searched Dimaro's home Tuesday morning and found about two pounds of marijuana, ammunition and $3,204 in cash, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. Dimaro was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery by discharging a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He will be arraigned Wednesday in Malden District Court.
