Touch-A-Truck, Music, More Planned At Malden Public Safety Day

The event is part of nationwide Fire Prevention Week programming.

MALDEN, MA — Malden community members will have a chance to enjoy a variety of attractions in just over a week at this year’s running of the city’s annual Public Safety Day.

The Malden Fire Department and Malden Police Departments will run the event at the Linden School at 29 Wescott St. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 9.

The event will feature a “touch-a-truck” event full of fire engines, ladders, police cars, an ambulance and DPW trucks. Local Girl Scouts will run arts and crafts programming alongside music, a State Police K-9 demonstration and free pizza, hotdogs, ice cream and goody bags, among other things.

The event is part of the national Fire Prevention Week program, which marks the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire. That fire killed 250 people and destroyed more than 17,400 buildings in October of 1871.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Fire Won’t Wait – Plan your Escape.”

Malden’s local Public Safety Day event is backed by sponsors including Cataldo Ambulance, the Malden Housing Authority, the Malden Board of Health, the Malden Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, the Malden DPW, Piantedosi Baking Co., Stop & Shop, Anthony’s of Malden, Ward 8 Councilor Jadeane Sica, City Councilor-At-Large Craig Spadafora, Ward 6 Councilor Steve Winslow, Ward 1 City Councilor Peg Crowe, and Malden Firefighters Local 902.

This event in Malden is just some of the Fire Prevention Week programming planned around the region, with an additional event in Reading set for the other end of the week on Oct. 15.
