Understanding and Resolving Depression Program on MHTV

Are you beginning to wonder if it will ever stop snowing?  Are you feeling down or depressed because winter seems to be going on so long?

While everyone occasionally feels blue or sad, these feelings are usually fleeting and pass within a couple of days. However, when someone has a longer-term depression, it interferes with daily life, normal functioning, and causes pain for both the person and those who care about him or her.

The next program in the Marblehead Counseling Center’s series on MHTV, which premieres on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 PM, focuses on depression and how to deal with it.  “Every year, over 10% of the American population suffers from depression and women are twice as likely to fall victim to depression as their male counterparts”, said Paul Crosby, Executive Director of the Counseling Center.  “In this program MCC counselor Heather Fine and I discuss what causes depression, when you should seek treatment and what are some of the resources available.”

Perspectives on Life is a monthly series on MHTV where Crosby and MCC counselors discuss the many challenges and anxieties which people encounter during life.  The program on depression will start on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 PM and be repeated on Wednesday, March 16 at 8 PM; Thursday, March 17 at 1 PM; Monday, March 21 at 7:30 PM; Tuesday, March 22 at 1 PM; Monday, March 28 at 8 PM; and Wednesday, March 30 at 1 PM.

On Tuesday, March 29 there will be a workshop on Coping with Depression at the Counseling Center from 7pm to 8.30pm, where MCC therapists will discuss the types of events that trigger depression and ways of successfully coping.  The workshop is open to the public and free of charge. For information and registration call the MCC on 781-631-8273.

Founded in 1969, the Counseling Center helps people to cope with all sorts of life issues such as the emotional and financial trauma of unemployment and understanding adolescent children.  The next MHTV show will look at “The Challenges of Single Parenting and how to cope.”  Questions about depression or ideas for future topics are very welcome.  To submit a question or idea, emailinfo@marbleheadcounseling.org <info@marbleheadcounseling.org> or telephone 781-631-8273.
