Marblehead Causeway Reopens Amid Coastal Flood Watch Wednesday

The Causeway was closed at about 9 a.m. ahead of the approaching high tide and reopened at about 11:15.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Causeway in Marblehead was closed at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday in anticipation of a high tide that flooded roads up and down the coast of Massachusetts in the wake of the latest winter storm.

The storm surge, which was expected to cause between 1 to 3 inches of inundation, led to the closing of roads in Salisbury, Newbury and the Morrissey Boulevard exit off Route 93 in Dorchester.

The Causeway reopened at about 11:15 a.m.

A Flood Watch remained in effect in most of Massachusetts through 1 p.m., through the National Weather Service.

Flooding was also reported in Southborough, Northborough, Plymouth, Saugus, Chelsea, Braintree and other coastal locations with concerns about the Wednesday morning high tide running at 1 to 3 inches of inundation.
