Marblehead Graffiti: Reward Offered For Information Leading To Arrest

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects in the Marblehead graffiti case.

MARBLEHEAD, MA – Following the discover of "disturbing" graffiti on the Causeway wall earlier this month, the Anti-Defamation League's New England branch is offering a $3,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

The reward is possible because of three private donors, said ADL Regional Director Robert Trestan.

The graffiti was found on Friday, June 30, and consisted of racially offensive, anti-Semitic language alongside a pro-Trump slogan. The Essex County Sheriff and Marblehead Public Works helped Marblehead Police remove the graffiti.

"One of the unique things about this particular incident is the graffiti was fairly large," said Trestan. "Somebody spent some time putting up these messages. We’re not talking about a couple of inches here, we’re talking about feet."

He said the graffiti, which contained language the police called "extremely disturbing," targeted many people and groups in the community.

"That’s one of the reasons why there was a real sense of unity in Marblehead in the aftermath, and why people are coming forward to add to the reward fund, because they really wanted to have closure and the person or persons held accountable," said Trestan.

Police asked that anyone with information related to the graffiti call Marblehead detectives at 781-631-1212. The community held a gathering earlier in July to show unity in the face of the criminal act.

"The one thing that we do know is whoever is responsible certainly intended to send a message of hate," said Trestan.
