Suspect Accused in Violent Assault Released from Jail, Must Stay in Marblehead

A college student from Marblehead is facing charges that he attacked his girlfriend at an off-campus home last weekend.

The Marblehead man accused of violently attacking his girlfriend 10 days ago was released from jail Tuesday.

John Perry, 21, is a student and football player at Western New England University and had been held without bail until Friday, when a Springfield District judge ruled he could be released under certain conditions. Perry went home Tuesday, reports MassLive. He has been ordered to live with his mother in Marblehead, stay in Marblehead, wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and submit to random alcohol testing.

Perry has been charged with aggravated assault and battery in connection to an alleged attack of his girlfriend last weekend that left her with a fractured skull, bleeding to the brain, two split lips and swelling and cuts to her face.

Perry’s attorney, Ed Principe, said text messages from the victim afterward show she doesn’t remember how she was injured and Perry “vehemently denies the charges.”

Perry’s is “facing an uncertain future as a student and athlete, according to MassLive. He is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 8.
