Would You Stay Anonymous if You Won the Lottery?

The winner of the state's largest scratch ticket prize will remain a secret after claiming it through a trust. What would you do?

The man who won the largest scratch ticket prize in state history used a trust to claim his prize this week.

The move - to have the trustees, an accountant and a lawyer, claim the $15 million prize - keeps the identity of the winner a secret. The prize came from the World Class Millions game, which has $30 scratch tickets.

“The trustees didn’t reveal any information about the winner except that he is a man and it was his best week ever,” Lottery director Beth Bresnahan told the Boston Herald. “People claim in trust for different reasons.”

The winner chose the cash option and collected $9.75 million.

The store where the ticket was sold is not a secret. It was sold at Nicole’s Mini Food Store on Essex Street in Salem. The store earned a $50,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
